JENKINS PACES BULLDOG RECEIVERS AGAIN
Mississippi State senior wide receiver Justin Jenkins (Pearl, Miss.)
is putting together a highlight-reel senior season, and only injury seems
to slow the Bulldog pass-catcher. Fully recovered from a nasty gash on
his biceps, he has led the team in receiving in back-to-back weeks at
Tennessee and Arkansas, catching eight passes for 101 yards and a
touchdown over those two weeks. He had a two-week midseason
slump when he suffered the injury at Kentucky and then played with
stitches in his arm vs. Alabama. In those two games, he had just five
catches for 39 yards combined. He has surpassed 100 yards receiving
in a game six times in his career -- four times this season. Jenkins had
back-to-back career-best receiving performances at Tulane and
Houston in Weeks 2-3. He caught nine passes for 172 yards, a 19.1-
yard average, and two touchdowns against the Cougars, and nine pass-
es for 164 yards and two scores against the Green Wave. The nine
catches against Tulane were the most by a Bulldog since Eric Moulds
hauled in 10 passes against Auburn eight years ago (10/7/95). The
yardage totals were the eighth and 10th-most in a single game, and
most receiving yards since Moulds had 183 yards vs. Tennessee
(9/23/95).
JENKINS MOVES AMONG THE SCHOOL'S TOP 10 IN RECEPTIONS, YARDS & TDS
With his three catches against Arkansas, Jenkins now has 137
career receptions, third on the school's all-time receiving list. Jenkins
trails only Sammy Milner (146; 1968-70) and David Smith (162; 1968-
70) on that chart.
His receiving
yardage against the
Razorbacks gives
him 1,965 yards
through the air,
good for fourth all-
time. Jenkins trails
#3 Eric Moulds
(2,022; 1993-95) on
the yardage list.
His 17 career TD
catches ties Eric Moulds (17; 1993-95) for the most in a Mississippi
State career.
JENKINS' 100-YARD RECEIVING GAMES INCH TOWARD TOP OF MSU LIST
Those six career 100-yard receiving games tie for the third-most
among Mississippi State receivers all-time. He surpassed the five 100-
yard games posted by Danny Knight (1980-83), moving into a tie with
Bill Buckley (1971-73) on that chart. Only Mardye McDole (7; 1977-80)
and David Smith (8; 1968-70) have more 100-yard receiving games to
their credit.
JENKINS MAKES STRIDES UP STATE'S SINGLE-SEASON RECEIVING LIST
Through 11 weeks of the season, Justin Jenkins now has 60
catches for 869 yards and nine touchdowns. As he enters the final
game of his senior season, his `03 receptions and yardage each rank
fifth on the single-season list at the school. His TD catch against
Tennessee was his ninth of the year, surpassing his own single-season
TD reception mark (8, 2001).
