EGG BOWL BACK ON CAMPUS FOR 13TH YEAR
The Mississippi State-Mississippi game has been played in various
locations throughout the state of Mississippi through the 100 years of the
rivalry. This season's edition will be the 32nd meeting in Starkville, the
most of any location in the series. It is also the 13th time the game will
be played on one of the two campus sites since the game left Jackson
after the 1990 season. MSU leads 7-5 in the previous 12 games of that
stretch.
SCOTT FIELD TURF NAMED BEST IN AMERICA
The playing surface at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field has been
named the Collegiate Football Field of the Year for 2004, the Sports Turf
Manager's Association announced recently. The award will be presented
at the 2004 STMA National Conference in San Diego, Calif., in January.
The award is the highest form of recognition available for a sporting facili-
ty in the United States of America. It is awarded by the professionals in
the sports turf industry. The turf was developed by MSU, and is market-
ed under the name Mississippi-Choice. It is also installed at Bank One
BallPark in Phoenix, Ariz., Edison Field in Anaheim, Calif., and the Rose
Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The playing surface is managed by MSU
Athletic Field Supervisor Bart Prather and his staff.
STATE LOOKS TO IMPROVE RECORD ON ESPN
Mississippi State has posted a 10-10 record all-time when appearing
on ESPN, the national cable sports network. The Bulldogs, however, will
be looking to snap a two-game losing streak on ESPN. State last won on
ESPN vs. Mississippi in 2001.
EGG BOWL IS MSU'S FIRST ESPN TELECAST IN `03
Mississippi State has been a regular on ESPN through the years,
but The Battle For The Golden Egg will be the Bulldogs' first appearance
on the national cable network during the 2003 season. MSU had been
telecast multiple times annually by ESPN since 1998. State has been
shown twice this fall on ESPN2.
MSU IN WORST 3-YEAR STRETCH IN 34 YEARS
Mississippi State has won just eight games since defeating Texas
A&M in the 2000 Independence Bowl. It is the most difficult three-year
stretch on the field since 1967-69 when the Bulldogs won just four times.
MISSISSIPPI STATE-MISSISSIPPI TICKET UPDATE
A crowd in excess of 50,000 is expected for the Mississippi State-
Mississippi game at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field. Tickets may still
be purchased for the Bulldogs' season-ending game with Mississippi at
the Bryan Athletic Administration Building Ticket Office, Monday through
