fuel on the most urgent timeframe.
5. A floating casino for New York City located in international waters where New York laws do
not apply. Circle Line and Mirage Casinos have presented plans for this project, which could
begin by the 2nd quarter of 1996.
6. Redevelopment of the Calverton site. There are three proposals that have been put
together by the Riverhead Community Development Agency by a consulting firm. These are
the three scenarios, A) An entertainment, sports and recreation complex, B) A business park
with commercial and industrial space. This is the only proposal that would leave untouched
on of the existing runways. C) A mixed use complex with senior housing, two golf courses, a
hotel/conference center and commercial uses. Already there are plans underway.
7. A " man on the moon" effort to make Long Island more competitive. This would probably
be best done on a national level but it could start here. The obvious choices, travel,
entertainment, biotech, computer technology, education, financial services, hi-tech
manufacturing. Additionally, increase the efficiency of existing manufacturing and develop
assistance programs to shore up our manufacturing base. Reduction of energy costs and
taxes and additional affordable housing to reduce the "brain drain" are crucial.
8. Remove export controls. According to statistics almost 40% of America's exports from
computer software to chemicals are subject to Cold War regulations. Export controls

they get vs. what they pay. This is unlike the current system which masks this relationship. It
is the primary cause of the high real estate tax situation being experienced today. This is
currently being implemented.
10. The East End- A) Preserve the character of the two forks by limiting any new
development and preserving the farmland. There are various programs that are underway B)
Redevelop the Grumman/Navy facility at Calverton and utilize the airport for cargo - connect
with a rail system. This is currrently being implemented. See section - Preservation of the East
End of Long Island.
11. Consolidate many of the school districts to eliminate duplicity and cost which will ultimately
reduce taxes. Additionally consider state take over of public school costs.
12. Energy Policy- A) Oil (fossil fuel) under
the most urgent time frame possible shift

sources i.e. photovoltaic B) increase use of
mass transit, employee sponsored van
