The backset is the measurement from the edge of the door to the center of the hole for the knob or
lever. This measurement should be one of two measurements: 2 3/8" or 2 3/4".
If the door is not pre-drilled, measure the distance from the edge of the door to the beginning of
the paneling or glass, then divide by two and choose the backset closest to that figure. For
example if the distance from the edge of the door to the beginning of the paneling is 5", half that
number is 2 1/2". Choose the closest backset which is 2 3/8".
What function(s) is needed:
_____Passage - Knobs/Levers for both sides of doors with a latch. This function is for doors that
require a working mechanism with no lock.
_____Privacy - Knobs/Levers for both sides of doors with a privacy latch. This function has a locking
push button feature with automatic release on the interior trim and an emergency release feature
on the exterior door trim. Often used on bedroom and bathroom doors.
_____Full Dummy - Knobs/Levers for both sides of doors with no working mechanism. The
knobs/levers do not turn. Often used with ball catches to keep door closed.
_____Half Dummy - Knob/Lever for one side of a door with no working mechanism. The knob/lever
does not turn. Hardware on other side not necessary. (ex. pantry closet) Often used with ball
catches to keep door closed.
