Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide
holidays
Hanukkah (that's the most common spelling) begins at sundown
Sunday.
It's the 8-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the rededication of
the Temple of Jerusalem by the Maccabees after victory over the
Syrians.
Usually it's in December, but sometimes it begins in late November.
While we're on the subject of holidays, Mrs. B wants to go over a
few that use the possessive form and a few that don't.
These possessives are all singular:
New Year's Eve
Lincoln's Birthday
Valentine's Day
St. Patrick's Day
Mother's Day
Secretary's Day
These are plural possessives:
Presidents' Day
April Fools' Day
All Saints' Day
And these are simple plural and have no apostrophe:
Armed Forces Day
Veterans Day
United Nations Day
Mrs. B wishes you a good weekend, whether it's working or playing.
