Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide
anxious/eager, different from, couldn't care less
Let's spend just a little time on "anxious" and "eager."
Mrs. B is anxious about it, but she's eager to move on to "different
from" and "different than."
"Anxious" means full of worry or anxiety; "eager" means excited or
enthusiastic.
So...
v
Rosemary is ANXIOUS about her audition tape making the
deadline.
v
I'm EAGER to hear all about your meeting with the GM.
"Different than"?
Don't use it.
It's that simple.
Things differ FROM each other.
v
Working overnights is different FROM what I expected.
v
His approach to storytelling is different FROM anyone else's.
And "COULDN'T care less" is what people MEAN when they say,
"I could care less."
Think about it.
If they could care less, that means they still care to some degree.
If they COULDN'T care less, there's no room for caring at all.
Mrs. B cares about you, especially if you are grammatically
challenged.
