Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide
twins vs. "two twins," thaw vs. "unthaw"
Mrs. B knows it's easy to fall into the accidental use of a silly
sounding redundancy.
So here's a reminder: Do NOT say "two twins" or "two twin
daughters."
"Twins" MEANS two.
When you talk about President and Mrs. Bush's daughters, the word
"twins" suffices.
v
We haven't heard much lately about the Bush twins, just as we
haven't heard much about Gary Condit.
And as we approach the winter months, here's a little refresher on
what happens to ice when the weather warms.
Ice THAWS.
It doesn't "unthaw."
Now, just in case you need one more thing to think about, Mrs. B
invites you to try this one on:
"Applause is the spur of noble minds, the end and aim of weak
ones."
--Charles Caleb Colton, author and clergyman (1780-1832)
