Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide
ageism
What a hopeful title: It's Only Too Late If You Don't Start Now.
Barbara Sher writes in her book about a subject near to Mrs. B's
heart and one she wants you to, at least, consider.
"Ageism is just like racism or any other prejudice. Prejudice is
irrational and powerful and limiting. It cuts your free, creative
spirit off at the knees and deprives you of the company of
exciting, original people."
Older adults are the people who MAKE most of the news.
They, in fact, run the world.
They may not be sitting next to you in the newsroom or in the news
vehicle.
They may not be standing behind the camera in the studio or talking
in your ear from the control room.
They may not be sitting down with you for your annual review.
But it's likely they're signing your pay check.
Your assignment?
Eradicate ageism from your writing.
Mrs. B ends today's lesson with a final quote from Sher's book:
"When you forgive yourself and others more easily,
understanding how hard it is to be perfect, you're probably over
fifty."
