Chapter 2 Word Choice
137
shuddered, lightning, kindergarten, sherbet,
Canada goose, chaise longue
We start today's lesson with a little friendly from Montgomery,
Alabama.
"This is from a spam I received today. Pretty good! `Have you
ever looked at consultants rates and SHUTTERED? Get the
benefits of a consultant, at rates that are less than those of a
permanent employee!'"
Phil Witt, WCOV-TV
The word, of course, should be SHUDDERED.
You might "shutter" the windows in case of a storm.
And it's a good idea to get off the phone if there's LIGHTNING.
Note, there is no "e" in lightning.
The "lightening" with an "e" is what Mrs. B does to her hair.
KINDERGARTEN has more to do with kids than with gardens.
Be sure you spell it and say it with a "t" instead of a "d."
SHERBET comes in lovely colors.
It comes with no "r."
"Sherbert" comes from too many mouths.
Make sure that one of them is not yours.
CANADA geese fly South for the winter.
Mrs. B encourages you not to make them "Canadian" geese.
CHAISE LONGUE is a combination of French words that translates
into "long chair."
So say "chaise LONG," instead of "chaise lounge."
And that's finis for Mrs. B, for today.
