        Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide

Johns Hopkins, drag/dragged , hanged/hung
A Grammar Corner reader from Baltimore crusades for "Johns":

"A local morning anchor said `John Hopkins' instead of Johns
Hopkins. I called the station and told them that if you went to the
farthest reaches of Antarctica or the deepest jungles of Africa
and asked any stranger for the name of the world-renowned
medical institution and university in Baltimore, anyone could tell
you it's JOHNS Hopkins."

An Atlanta reader preaches to us TV folks about using "drug":

"Please inform broadcasters that `drug' is NOT the past tense of
`drag.' "

Repeat after Mrs. B, please.
The past tense of "drag" is "dragged."

v
We DRAGGED our cable till we thought we'd drop.

v
They've DRAGGED the river but haven't found a body yet.

And Mrs. B might add that people are "hanged" and stockings and
pictures are "hung."

v
The last death row inmate to die was HANGED.

v
We HUNG mistletoe over the new sports reporter's desk.
