Mrs. Bluezette's Grammar Guide
memento/"momento"
Buenos dias.
If you know that means "good morning," then you probably know
that "momento" is Spanish for "moment."
One of Mrs. B's readers suggests we work on the word "memento"
(often misspoken as "momento"), after he heard a report from
Houston:
"....the reporter was discussing the funeral of those five children
when he mentioned the father placed a `momento' in each
child's casket. The story itself is sad enough. The reporter's
choice of saying `momento' instead of `memento' made it sound
worse."
"Memento" is NOT spelled or pronounced "momento."
A "memento" is "a keepsake" or "a reminder of the past."
v
A MEMENTO helps one remember an event.
