This file contains 11 sample pages of text from the 2003 edition of The
Thru-hiker's Handbook, plus the copyright and acknowledgment pages.
The new handbook is 184 pages in length ... containing a Mileage Index
with 88 pages of mileage tables which show the features on the entire
Appalachian Trail arranged geographically from Georgia to Maine (mileages
are provided for both northbound and southbound users) ... followed by
76 pages of Thru-hiker Notes giving descriptive information about goods
and services needed by hikers. Be sure to read the instructions for the
Mileage Index and Thru-hiker Notes sections, since these two sections
together supply the information you will need for doing your hike.
Note that this PDF file is specifically formatted for presentation on the
Internet, so most features, especially maps and graphics, may not display
with the same clarity that you will find in the handbook itself. If you have a
high-resolution printer, you can print this file and get a close approximation
of the actual pages.
