The Leapfrog Group's goal is to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety and overall value of healthcare to
consumers. It is a voluntary program aimed at enhancing patient safety. Hospitals in several regions nationwide are
invited to complete the Web survey and share their performance with their communities.
The Leapfrog Group is sponsored by the Business Roundtable, a national association of Fortune 500 CEOs. To become
part of Leapfrog, healthcare purchasers must implement its specific patient safety initiatives. Leapfrog purchasers are
advancing three initial methods to improve patient safety:
n
Computer physician order entry
(CPOE) is a system that enables physicians to enter hospital medication orders
via a computer that is linked to prescribing error prevention software.
n
Intensive care unit (ICU) physician staffing
is where accredited critical care physicians or intensive care
specialists are available and responsive to emergency pages.
n
Evidence-based hospital referral
(EHR) is the comparison of Leapfrog's favorable hospital volume to actual
hospital volume.
The Leapfrog group neither endorses nor warrants the quality of any data in this display other than The Leapfrog
Group's data and neither endorses nor warrants the methodology used in this display to compile data from different
sources. The Leapfrog Group data was collected and compiled by Medstat (www.medstat.com).
