How HealthGrades Rates Hospitals
For each hospital, HealthGrades rated different procedures or diagnoses using risk-adjustment
methodologies (except maternity care and women's health). Each of the procedures or diagnoses is rated in
one or more categories:

·
Avoiding Complications
Survival and Recovery ratings are based upon mortality outcomes while Avoiding Complications is based
upon complication outcomes.
HealthGrades risk adjusts the data to ensure a fair comparison between hospitals. Each hospital receives
one of the following ratings for each medical issue:
