Improving the best 250cm
3
four stroke ever
produced by Suzuki wasn't an easy task. Suzuki
engineers understood the challenge, and they
were eager to attack it. Carburetor change,
exhaust port shape modification, improved frame
design and suspension changes evolved into
making the RM-Z250 more powerful and more
agile. Returning to dominance, the Suzuki RM-
Z250 is back to win in 2008.
Carburetor
For 2008, the Suzuki RM-Z250 is switching
carburetors to the KEIHIN FCR38MXS which
takes advantage of bat-wing type air guide
plates. Changes result in better mid-to-high
acceleration feeling while improving low
throttle opening response.
Exhaust port shape
As Suzuki engineers focused on improving
mid-to-high power output feeling, countless
hours in the dyno room resulted in
modifications to the exhaust port shape.
By redesigning and narrowing down the left
side of the exhaust port, an improvement of
mid-to-high power output feeling delivers
pleasing results.
Muffler construction
Allowing the engine to breathe more efficiently
meant re-evaluating the current muffler
construction. Suzuki engineers reviewed
the perforated plates inside the muffler and
made modifications, improving power output
throughout the rev range.
Piston profile
With massive power pumping out of the
250cm

engine, Suzuki engineers made
modifications to the piston profile giving an
increase in piston and cylinder efficiency.
Frame
As Suzuki engineers study for ways to improve
frame design, two updates take place for
increasing performance in 2008. Seeking ways
to balance rigidity, brackets are added to the
side frame pipes and tank rails. In addition,
lower bridge pipes are reduced in size resulting
in improved shock-absorption feel while
maintaining ample strength. Results give the
Suzuki RM-Z250 an increase in agile handling
and performance through the whoops.
Front Suspension
Inverted twin chamber SHOWA forks handle
suspension needs up front. Sections within the
fork are modified to reduce weight and improve
shock absorption. Design changes result in a
better controlled feel and increasing bottoming
resistance. Front suspension modifications
include:
Weight Reduction-Reduced wall thickness on
upper bracket, cut-away section between the
outer-tube brackets extended, steering shaft
press-fit section shortened, lower handlebar
holder reduced in size, handlebar holder
mounting rubber-section reduced in size.
Improved shock absorption-
Rebound/Compression valve specifications
optimized, main piston side-flow route
expanded, rod pipe diameter widened, separator
internal diameter widened, bush modified.
Optimized rigidity-Handlebar holder bracket
made of castings
Rear Suspension
Covering the rear suspension is a SHOWA
piggyback-reservoir shock that incorporates a
newly designed damper case and modified
internal structure. Design changes result in a
better controlled feel and increasing bottoming
resistance. Rear suspension modifications
include:
Weight Reduction- Rod neck shortened and
reduced in size, chamber cap flanges wall
thickness reduced
Better Shock absorption- Damper case internal
diameter's precision increased, enlarged plug
bolt diameter, rebound/compression valve
specifications and characteristics optimized

Factory Race Team Hard Parts
Gold Chain
Gold-colored chain adds to the factory
finishing touches on the Suzuki RM-Z250.
Hot Starter
Adding to the factory finishing touches, the hot
starter is relocated to the right hand side of
the handlebar, letting your left hand focus on
operating the clutch in the time of need.
Disc Rotor
Helping the Suzuki RM-Z250 stop, race inspired
wave disc rotors are bolted on the front and
rear hubs. In addition to better cooling
performance, wave disc rotors offer more
efficiency slinging mud compared to traditional
round disc rotors in muddy conditions.
Front disc diameter: 250mm
Rear disc diameter: 240mm
Footrests
Newly designed footrests include an increase
of clearance between the mounting brackets
to prevent mud from caking up.
Seat
Knowing how important proper body weight
balance is, Suzuki engineers made changes to the
RM-Z250 seat. The gripper seat has been improved
this year by adding projected cross-shaped patterns
on the top surface to provide additional grip.
