GALIL'S DMC-2100 MOTION CONTROLLER NOW
SUPPORTS MODBUS
Communicates Between Controller & Hundreds of I/O Points
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 20, 1999 -- Galil motion control, inc., pioneer and
leader of digital motion control technology, today announced that they added support of
the Modbus Ethernet protocol and multi-master and multi-slave capabilities to their DMC-
2100 standalone controller. These new features take advantage of an Ethernet-based
LAN (local area network) to provide faster and more efficient communications with less
wiring, while expanding the number of I/O (input/output) to which the controller connects.
Modbus, a serial bus developed by Modicon enables communication between I/O
devices. It is seen in the industry as the standard protocol for distributed control systems
(DCS). Using Modbus as an additional communication layer, the DMC-2100 provides
easy-to-use commands for reading and writing to remote digital and analog I/0.

controllers."
The DMC-2100's multi-master capability enables multiple computers to talk
directly to the controller using Ethernet. For example, a computer can send motion
commands at the same time another PC is receiving status information from the same
controller. With multi-slave capability, Galil's DMC-2100 is in direct communication to all
I/O devices via the Ethernet LAN. This reduces the wiring for each I/O device because it
no longer has to plug directly into the controller. Instead of individual device wires, you
can run all of your I/O over Ethernet.
