The Remote Rear Lockout comes equipped on some Scalpel
models. The lockout mechanism comes installed on the Fox
Cable stop bracket w/ mounting screw
Lockout cam w/ two M3x6mm set screws
Lockout lever (mounts to handlebars)
Derailleur cable and housing
Verify that all parts are present, including the two set screws
located in the lockout cam.
Rotate the lockout cam (or blue lever, which ever is installed on
the shock) until the shock suspension is locked out (indicated
by a detente, where the cam has rotational free play).
Remove the cam or blue lever from the post by loosening the
two set screws.
Install the lockout cam onto the post making sure that the spring
ear is inserted into the cam. Choose the appropriate hole on the
cam so that with no tension on the spring, the flat right hand side
of the cam sits at a 45 degree angle. Turn the cam clockwise until the flat right hand side of the cam is vertical. In this position, tighten the post
set screw, using a 1.5-mm hex wrench. This gives preload to the spring which gives a smooth action to the lockout. Caution: Overtightening
this screw may strip the threads. Very little torque is required, less than can be accurately measured by a torque wrench.
Run the cable through the lockout lever located on the handle bar. Position the lever so it has the minimum cable pull.
Next, insert the cable through the cable stop bracket and around the cam, threading it through the hole in the side of the cam.
Then tighten the cable set screw using a 1.5-mm hex wrench, securely holding the cable in place. Caution: Overtightening this screw may
strip the threads. Very little torque is required, less than can be accurately measured by a torque wrench.
The lockout lever that is attached to the handlebar will lock and unlock the rear Fox Shox.
With the thumb lever in the full counter clockwise position the shock will be inactive.
Turning the lever 45-degrees in the clockwise direction the suspension will be fully active. The lever will allow more rotation in the clockwise
direction but it is unnecessary to activate the suspension.
Renstallation of the Stock Lever (Fox's Blue Lever, also included with each bike):
Remove the Remote Lockout hardware, starting with the lockout cam, using a 1.5mm hex wrench.
Next remove the cable stop bracket and torsion spring. Note: The mounting screw for the cable stop bracket requires either a 9/64" or a
2mm hex wrench, depending upon the type of bolt. Silver cable stop bracket bolts use the 9/64" hex wrench, black cable stop bracket
bolts use a 2mm hex wrench.
Then, install the short set screw that is included with the blue lever. This screw holds the shock post in place and requires a 2mm hex wrench
to install. Caution: Torque for this screw is only 10 In-Lbs (1.1 Nm)! This is very little torque! Do not overtighten, or you will strip the
threads and render the Fox shock unusable. Finally, install the blue lever and position it so that the set screw lines up with the flat on the
shock post. Tighten using a 2mm hex wrench.
