SWINGARM
Pivot Assembly
The pivot assembly (See Figure 6.) should be removed inspected periodically
for unusual wear or damage and each replaced as necessary. We recommend a
minimum period of once a year, however, please remeber that the parts of the
assembly are considered normal wear items and are not covered under warranty.
Pivot Axle
Grease should be applied to the pivot axle (1) and inside the frame pivot bore to
inhibit corrosion. Rotate the grease axle in the pivot; If you feel any resistance,
it may be an indication that either the bolt or hole in the seat tube has been
damaged. When reinstalling the assembly, be sure to notice that the small raised
side (c) of the bearing shield (3) faces inward toward the pivot axle.
Cartridge Bearings
The two sealed catridge bearings require no lubrication, however, grease applied
to the faces will help repel damaging moisture. With the pivot bolt removed the
inner bearing races can be turned to detect wear or damage. They should rotate
smoothly without a gritty or rough feel. If replacements are necessary, they can be
driven out without a punch and replaced. Both bearings should fit tightly in the
swingarm.
Spacers
The spacers should be inspected for unusual wear and replaced as necessary.
Notice that the rounded sides (b) face inward toward the seat tube.
CAUTION:
KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT OF PINCH POINTS - Support the weight of the tire/
swingarm so it does not drop against the seat tube or shift unexpectedly when
the pivot bolt is removed.
