CHAPTER TWO
Guide to Safe Bicycle Trailer Use
During Every Ride: Be Safe
Observe these special lead bike requirements.
When pulling a bicycle trailer the lead rider must be able to
stop both themselves and the additional weight of the trailer.
This extra weight requires additional stopping power. Mountain
bikes usually have more powerful braking systems, making a
mountain bike ideal for pulling a bicycle trailer.
It is recommended to use fenders on the lead bicycle to
protect the trailer rider from water or other debris which could
be thrown from the lead bicycle's rear wheel. This extra protec-
tion is a good idea, even if the canopy cover is closed.
