Design and Information Technology
The digital camera provides the user with access to a very versatile and flexible form
of technology. The process of creating a movie is a wonderful way to "design and make",
using digital technology to tell a story, explain a concept, paint a picture, and express
an emotion. In addition to the camera and easy to use software, The LEGO & Steven
Spielberg MovieMaker Set # 1349 includes building materials to start a flexible system
for building models to animate stories and to model scientific, mathematical, or other
processes.
Design Technology
While creating their own films, students can:
· Build props and design sets for modeling processes or animating stories.
Set the project ideas in various subject areas for specific ideas.
· Design and make a system for moving the camera, e.g. for zooming in and out in
a reliable, straight path.
Information Technology
While creating their own film, students can learn to:
· Use the digital camera to film both live action and stop-motion shots
· Use sound editing features to create music or add special sound effects
· Use software to record narration
· Use the software to show the finished film
· Burn their movies on CD-ROMs
· Distribute their movies using e-mail and the Internet.
If your school has a Web site, use LEGO Studios to add features to your school or
classroom homepage.
The technology can also be used to add some fantastic special effects. Students can:
· Create a set that gives the illusion of another time and place
· Use the stop-motion features to show a process, e.g. growing, aging.
