Workshop Programme Teachers' Notes
Education objectives
The objectives of this programme are to
give your group the opportunity to:
·
Learn about renewable resources such
as solar and wind energy.
·
Experience and explore how they are
used through Hands On activities.
·
Test and compare energy sources.
·
Relate Hands On activities to the
experience of LEGOLAND® Windsor
attractions.
Different activities are built into the
programme to enable pupils to work at their
own pace and according to their needs.
Although rides and attractions cannot be
reserved, your school party is encouraged to
enjoy the Eyes On and Body On activities
before and/or after the workshop.
There are some height restrictions on rides
so it is advisable to check these before you
visit. If your group has special needs
requirements there is a guide available that
will help you make the most of your visit.

Energy in Motion
The World of Energy
Energy is the capacity to do work or the
ability to make things move
We see the results of energy: Plants grow, wheels turn, a
computer runs, hot water comes out of showers, car
motors rev up and aeroplanes take off.
Energy comes from many sources
Much of our present energy supply comes from the use
of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas. Since fossil fuels
take millions of years to form, they are effectively non-
renewable. Every time we use oil, coal, and gas, there is
less for future use. Also, burning fossil fuels produces
waste products that pollute the atmosphere.
Energy also occurs naturally in wind, flowing water and
sunlight. Using these renewable energy resources may
offer an alternative power source.
It's a breeze! Wind energy for work and play
For thousands of years, sailing ships used wind energy.
Today, sailing is a leisure activity enjoyed by many.
Windmills are usually grouped together in a windfarm to
generate electricity. Large rotors have pitched blades to
collect wind energy. Windmills convert about 30% of the
wind's energy into electricity.
