Throughout the event, the Swifts proved to be rugged performers, well suited to
the extreme rigors of Canadian performance rallying. `The Suzuki's performance
exceeded our expectations", said Watt after the event. "With only 105 hp, we
thought we might be struggling, especially in the faster bits, but the Swift was
able to impress us with its excellent handling and surprising performance."
Bacon, accustomed to a car
with more than twice the power
of the Swift + could scarcely get
the smile off his face. "This
really goes!" was his most
frequently heard comment.
The Suzuki Team finished
first and second in P2 class,
17th (Bacon/Watt) and 22nd
(Ménégoz/Racette) overall. An
older privately entered Suzuki Swift also triumphed, taking first in the smaller P1
class, 23rd overall. Over 45 Teams had showed up to enter the event.
Next event for the Suzuki Canadian Rally Team will be Round 3 of the Canadian
National Rally Championship, which is the Baie des Chaleurs Rally held in New
Richmond Quebec on July 3 & 4.
