2) 2003 GSX-R1000 Concept Chart
"The Top Performer"
The GSX-R1000 has scored great results in numerous world championship and national racing
events in 2001 and 2002. We are introducing the new GSX-R1000 as the machine to rewrite its
own records, to further establish its status as the machine made to Own the Racetrack. The
purpose of this model change is to further improve upon the 2002 GSX-R1000, which is highly
acclaimed as the "Top Performer," by further reducing its weight, increasing its efficiency and
enhancing its high performance. Such objectives, and the basic goal of exceeding the 2002 GSX-
R1000, has been achieved.
More Efficient Combustion, Improved Power Output Feeling
The GSX-R1000 engine delivers an even stronger power output feeling by heightening efficiency
in terms of: a review of the intake system, a review of exhaust system, and improved ECM
performance.
Powerful and Compact Engine with Reduced Mechanical Losses
The GSX-R1000's compact, powerful engine sets the standard for open-displacement sportsbikes.
The new engine has been modified in details. The 2003 engine has new ventilation holes between
adjacent cylinders for reducing internal crankcase pumping pressure and associated mechanical
power losses. Mechanical losses were also reduced by reducing the weight of moving parts.
Improved Handling
The chassis is designed inheriting the development concept of the 2002 GSX-R1000, with
changes made to further improve handling performance. Specifically, we devoted our full efforts to
further improve performance in these areas: optimizing the balance of rigidity between each
chassis sections, reducing inertial moment, greatly reducing friction for both the front and rear
suspension and improving tire performance. As for the riding position, the position of the 2002
GSX-R1000 was highly acclaimed, and therefore we basically left the riding position unchanged.
However, a few changes were made to help enable riders to shift weight while riding more easily.
Weight Reduction
The dry weight of the 2003 GSX-R1000 is 2 kilograms less than the 2002 GSX-R1000. Weight
reduction was achieved by making a thorough review, down to details, and cutting weight from
several individual components. The result is a dry weight of only 168 kilograms.
Styled for Performance
The styling of the new GSX-R1000, with features like vertically stacked headlights, is composed to
convey a fresh image along with a strong presence as Suzuki's leading product. The styling did
not simply pursue "good looks," rather, it was designed with careful emphasis on overall
performance, including: aerodynamics, wind protection, intake efficiency, weight reduction, riding
position and rider weight shifts.
The GSX-R1000, ever since its introduction, has continued to maintain its status as a top
performing machine, has been delivering the joy of riding, and has responded to its users' passion
for performance. Its product appeal is not simply the performance of each individual components
or function such as handling or engine power, but rather a total riding performance as a
motorcycle. We'd like you all to experience riding the new GSX-R1000 and see how it responds to
your passion for sportsbike performance. We believe the new GSX-R1000 achieves the very best
performance possible today with the machine we call motorcycles.
