(6) Transmission
The aluminium crankcase is split horizontally into two pieces. The upper and middle crankcase
split carries the crankshaft. The lower crankcase split carries the transmission input and output
shaft. The semi-cassette-type transmission is the same as used in the 2002 GSX-R1000, making
it easier to change internal transmission ratios with kit parts for racing purpose.
The distance between the crankshaft and transmission input shaft is 138 mm, contributing to
keeping the engine compact.
The distance between the transmission input shaft and the transmission output shaft is 68 mm.
After much trial and error, we decided to keep the transmission gear ratios unchanged..
