(3) SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material)
The new GSX-R1000's cylinders are lined with SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical
Material), which is Suzuki's own race-proven nickel- phosphorous-silicon-carbide coating.
Compared to conventional cast-iron cylinder liners, SCEM cylinder coating improves heat transfer
and allows tighter piston clearance, to reduce mechanical losses.

(4) Integrated Upper Crankcase and Cylinder
The GSX-R1000 features an integrated upper crankcase and cylinder, with a closed-deck cylinder
design.
An integrated upper case and cylinder increase rigidity and reduce weight.
Generally, integrated upper crankcase and cylinder design reduce weight by 350 grams as
compared with the separate type upper crankcase and cylinder.
