(2) PAIR (Pulsed-secondary AIR injection) System
The new GSX-R1000 is equipped with the PAIR (Pulsed-secondary AIR injection) system.
The PAIR system reduces emission by sending fresh air from the airbox through the PAIR control
valve into the exhaust port on the cylinder head, igniting unburned hydrocarbons and reducing
carbon monoxide contained in the exhaust gas.
The system is the same as that on the 2002 GSX-R1000. The reed valve is integrated into the
cylinder head cover, eliminating external pipes and hoses.
The GSX-R1000 does not have an electrically controlled PAIR valve which is equipped with the
SV series, Burgman 650, V-Strom 1000 and other models with the PAIR system. Not equipping
electrically controlled PAIR valve saves weight, about 200 grams.
