The new GSX-R1000 features upgraded ECM with 32-bit CPU and 256-kilobyte ROM.
Furthermore, signal generator has been upgraded from 8 trigger poles to 22 trigger poles.
The ECM calculates ignition timing using throttle opening degrees (as detected by the throttle
position sensor) and engine rpm (as detected by the crank position sensor and signal generator).
The upgraded ECM and 22-trigger-pole signal generator means ignition timing can be calculated
more quickly and precisely.
The new GSX-R1000 ECM's ROM houses a total of 8 ignition timing maps, instead of 4 maps on
the 2002 GSX-R1000.
When in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear, ECM uses 4 maps for each cylinder. When in 5th or 6th gear,
ECM uses an additional 4 maps for each cylinder. This change contributes to more precise
ignition timing.
