(5) AFIS (Auto Fast Idle System)
The new GSX-R1000 has an AFIS (Auto Fast Idle system).
The system operates by monitoring the temperature of the cooling water. When starting the
engine, the secondary throttle valve is opened to an optimum position by the stepping motor
installed on the throttle body. The primary throttle valve is also opened by the linkage connected
with the secondary throttle valve.
The ECM controls the opening amount of the primary throttle valve and its duration based on the
information from the water temperature sensor.
