and took the last lap flag well ahead of any competitors. Unfortunately, a slight
miscalculation exiting the hairpin caused Eric to high-side and ended what
everyone thought would be a victory celebration. Judging by Eric's performance,
he will be sipping the victory champagne very soon.
The opening round of the Superbike series also saw the debut of the Diablo
Suzuki SV Cup National Championship series. With over 30 riders showing up to
contest the series, organizer John Bickel was more than thrilled with the turn-out
for the opening round. Racing in drying conditions, Marc St. Amand took the
victory with Matt Bushe and Paul Penzo following in 2
nd
and 3
rd
place. Trevor
MacDonald finished in 4
th
place but was awarded 3
rd
since Cycle Canada's Paul
Penzo was racing as "a promoter's option" for a story he is doing on the series.
