The Veterans
and the War
(Continued from Page 3)
France and the United States, who
gave Manchuria to Japan. It was they
who gave Mussolini the green light in
Abyssinia. It was they, in 1936, who
gave Hitler and Mussolini the green
light in Spain" To add to the criminal
record, it was they who gave Austria
and Czechoslovakia to Hitler. And, to
return to the Spanish war and its
effects, it is Britain and France who
are now engineering the surrender of
20,000 Spanish refugees - the cream
of the Spanish Republic, now
miserably quartered in the
concentration camps of France - to
Franco Spain, where they face torture,
imprisonment, death.
"There
have been no fascist
victories in the world (we again quote
Mr. Allen) until Blitzkrieg in Poland.
Before that, all of them were
contrived in Paris, London and
Washington."
These were the forces which
strangled the Spanish people, as they
hope to strangle every people in the
world. The Spanish people, and those
who fought
with them, fought for their convictions, for
freedom. The people, who bear arms today for
Chamberlain, Daladier and Hitler do so under
coercion, or because they have been fooled by
their rulers, those who would enslave and betray
them and add them to the long list of nations
enumerated above.
That is why we say we want no part of this
war. That is why we declare that the United
States must stay out.
If we must fight, let us fight for ourselves, for
the people, and not for the hypocritical
statesmen and presidents who with this war are
sowing the seeds of other, more deadly wars. If
we must fight, we will fight for peace, as we did
in Spain, and not for the markets and
investments of the imperialist powers.
