(Continued from Page 2)
WELCOME FROM
OUR FRIENDS
ed their services in this respect. Upon the basis
of their report you will be provided, so far as
we are able, with the rest recommended and the
specialized treatment which may be required.
Thousands of you who live outside of New
York will be provided with transportation as
quickly as possible so that you may be with
your families and friends for Christmas. Both
here and out of town such trade union
apparatus as we possess will put into motion to
try to obtain jobs for you after you have rested
and when you are again able to take up work.
The future success of our work depends
largely upon your assistance, as our facilities
now are largely the result of the cooperation of
the men who have already returned. As you
know, there are still men to return, men who
have been in the Valencia area, men who are
now in Spanish hospitals, men who must be
rescued from the horror and peril of Franco's
prison camp.
In welcoming you back to America we
welcome you not to relaxation, but to a
different form of activity and struggle, a
struggle which will in some ways be not less
difficult than your work in Spain. We must
safeguard America against the possible
Francos. We must open the eyes of the
American people to the dangers to their peace
involved in the continued aggression of
fascism. This a great task and one to which we
must set out attention immediately. All
democratic and anti-fascist America looks to
you as a tremendous driving force for its
accomplishment.
David McKelvy White National Chairman,
Friends of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

BULLY BEEF
YALE STUART, coming back after, two
years of service, was one of those who
started the argument that the war would
last six months. All the boys in the training
camp were wondering if they'd get up to
the front before it was all over.
PAT SHEA: Remember the time at
Brunete you fell asleep and the Brigade
moved up without you? You went to the
mayor of the town and got a chicken
dinner, cigarettes, pajamas and eight hours
more sleep ...... between clean white
sheets!
MANNY LANSER: Remember the time
you took a bite out of that big loaf of
delicious Spanish bread-and lost your
bridge?
LARRY DUKES: It's said they've
already found a job for you. Some break,
fella! ..... It's in the auto-wrecking
business.
MOE FISHMAN of a big box from
home while he was in hospital at Villa
Paz. Everybody including the political
commissar, gathered around, begging him
to open up and share it out. Moo did. It
was a box of soap.
CLARENCE KAILIN: Wonder if they've
heard in Madison, Wisconsin, about the
time you were tossed in the calabozo for
refusing to put on your pants-because it
was too hot!
ANDY ROYCE: Still a bottle baby,
Andy?
MAC BINN: Too bad the PARIS doesn't
dock in Brownsville, we remember that
you wrote home that the ship had taken
you right to Albacete. They moat have had
it on wheels for over a hundred miles, hey,
fella?
ALVAH C. BESSIE: Harry Reinliab
pinked up your suitcase in Paris. He says
he's much obliged.

MILT WOLFF

Sorry, Vets, that we couldn't find
a picture, but there's a big
welcome waiting for him from all
America. Anyway you don't need a
picture; Hemingway and Matthews say he
looks suet like Lincoln. Wonder when they
saw Lincoln.
WHO REMEMBERS THIS SPOT AND
WHEN THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN?

Notice to HAROLD STONE - Take the
Madison Ave. Bus to 126th Street for your
Finnish (Sauna) bath and Finnish coffee.
"Ole" Lindfors educated me and Finnish-
made coffee is tops.
The S. S. Paris doesn't have to worry
about the fog with HYMIE BROWN a
passenger. The glow of Brownie's nose
was mistaken for the Northern lights last
February at Teruel.
CARL WILLUWIT: Have you finally
learned how to march without keeping
your hands in your pockets? Tom Swann
is in Chicago, your home town; all set to
resume drilling you.
Our Spanish comrades accepted LOU
SECUNDY'S Brooklyn accent as genuine
- Chicago-ese.
NAT THORNTON, the second, half that
tire repair team, comes home a few months
after his Dad. Mark is back Frisco
readying the family homestead.
GET THEM HOME TOO

Even though the Spanish government has
evacuated all the International volunteers,
Americans still remain in Spain -- the
prisoners of Franco. Here is a chance for
the league of Nations to cooperate.
They've had the cooperation of the
Republic of Spain. Why don't they ask
Franco to release the Americans he holds?
The prisoners won't return to fight
Franco again -- even though they might
like to -- for the Republic won't admit
them. Thus there is no military reason for
their continued imprisonment.
President Roosevelt, too, would serve
the interests of all Americans by asking
Franco for the release of these boys and
their return to their families here.
Everyone of us should write a letter to
the President and one to the League to help
our buddies who are prisoners!
