When we say the XL-7 is ready for your next family adventure, we're not just talking about the
"statistically average" family with 2.5 kids, a dog and a hamster. How about a family of seven?
If you don't have a big family, how about you and six of your closest friends? No problem. With
available third-row seating, you've got enough room for everyone to relax in style. For those times
when you want a little extra traction, the available 4WD system features a two-speed transfer case
that will make the most of the available surface. To keep your life moving along, the 2.7-liter V6 engine
produces 183 hp, so there's ample power for merging and passing. The Limited model features a power
tilt-and-slide sunroof. For convenience, the standard keyless remote entry system can lock and unlock
the doors from a distance. For added peace of mind, XL-7 features a steel-reinforced passenger
compartment and a tough ladder-type frame with integrated energy-absorbing zones. The sturdy
structural design helped earn the XL-7 the highest overall safety rating of "Good" from the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety in their 40-mph frontal offset crash test. All of this is way above average
for a vehicle in this class.
It takes a lot of thought to pack so much into a vehicle and not have it explode at the seams. In a feat
of packaging brilliance, the XL-7 manages to give owners everything they want without paying a huge
size penalty. To keep the driver up-to-date on vital engine functions, the instrument panel is large and
legible for a quick read. It also features an electroluminescent display, something found on the most
expensive vehicles on the market. A powerful automatic climate control system is standard on all XL-7
models. Once you set the temperature, the system will hold it, even under changing weather
conditions. Also standard is a micron air-filtration system to help keep the inside air free of dust and
pollen. A rear air conditioning system is standard on all seven-passenger models to keep everyone
comfortable. All models feature an in-dash CD player with seven speakers, including an adjustable
subwoofer. The Limited model adds a six-disc in-dash CD changer to the system far more convenient
to use than trunk-mounted units for hours of uninterrupted listening. And, for the ultimate in comfort
with a touch of elegance, the Limited model also features standard leather seating surfaces. Clearly,
this is an interior that would be right at home in a luxury SUV. The good news, of course, is that the XL-
7 doesn't exact a luxury-SUV price.
