This workshop answers the question, "Could I survive an unexpected
night out?," on a personal level. It reviews both the psychology and
the physiology of survival under arduous conditions. During the
workshop commercial survival kits will be available and evaluated
by the instructors who also display the equipment they routinely
carry. The selection and use of effective clothing will also be discussed
and demonstrated.

During the workshop participants will practice, under the guidance
of the instructor; effective fire building techniques, the selection
of safe shelter sites, erecting efficient emergency shelters and the
methods used to attract the attention of rescuers. This is a hands-on
workshop conducted in the field wear clothing suitable for working
in the outdoors and walking or hiking shoes. Part 2 can be taken
without taking Part 1.

PHOTOGRAPHING THE COLORADO ROCKIES
This is a half-day field seminar by James Kay offering instruction
and techniques on composition, lighting, and equipment for creating
memorable landscape images using 35 mm, 6x7, and 617 formats.
Jim will choose a location in the mountains surrounding Aspen that
will offer participants various opportunities to put these techniques
to work on the ground.

NON-SURGICAL MODALITIES FOR BACK PAIN
In this fast-paced, jam-packed, sometimes humorous workshop,
myths are explored and will show why the most common treatments
don't work. Learn to get rid of your back pain and keep it from
coming back. Fix stiffness, sciatica, bad discs, lordosis, facet pain,
impingement, hip dysfunction, and other neck and back pain. Learn
more solutions than you can shake a stick at. Come prepared to excite

STRETCHES THAT HELP, STRETCHES THAT HARM
Did you know that many stretches are bad for you and other don't do
what you think? Recent research casts doubts on stretching to prevent
injury. Learn which stretches help and which harm in this fun active
workshop. Learn several scientific techniques to use for yourself and
to easily teach patients during the office visit for injury prevention,
muscle soreness, stiffness, and back pain on the trail and off, and how
to not get tight and sore in the first place.

Registration fees include a syllabus CD (digital format),
reception, and continental breakfast.
CANCELLATIONS: Registration cancellation must reach the
WMS office by July 1, 2005 in order to receive a refund less a $50
service fee. After that date, no refunds will be given. The WMS can
not be responsible for any personal or travel conditions that may
prevent attendance at the conference.
The Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical
education for physicians. The WMS designates this educational activity for a
maximum of 22.5 hours (with additional credit for Optional Workshops) in
category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent in the
educational activity.
ACEP
This program is approved by the American College of Emergency
Physicians for 21 hours of ACEP Category 1 credit.
AAFP
This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 21 hours
prescribed credit by AAFP.
NURSES
State nursing boards in general may recognize and accept
Category 1 credit. Please verify with your state board for validation.

personnel, and anyone interested in wilderness medicine. There are no
prerequisites to attend this conference, which is designed to be thoroughly
