This exciting and unique outdoor field course is designed for physicians,
nurses and other health care providers who want to learn practical
wilderness medicine skills and wilderness travel skills in an outdoor
setting. The location of the course is in the spectacular, rugged Mt.
Shasta/Marble Mountains Wilderness areas of Northern California.
Wilderness Medicine Topics Include: Altitude
illness, hypothermia, frostbite, heat illness, trauma,
fractures and dislocations, Travelers illnesses,
snakebite, arthropod envenomations, preparing for
foreign travel, planning an expedition kit.
Practical Wilderness Medical Skills: Improvised
immobilization and splinting techniques;
backcountry evacuation/improvised carries and
litters; patient assessment in wilderness setting; basic
wilderness rescue; field management of wounds,
fractures, dislocations, sprains, and other common
problems.
Wilderness Travel Skills: Wilderness
survival (half-day course); orienteering
(including map/compass, GPS);
whitewater raft skills; swiftwater
crossing techniques; basic climbing
skills including use of crampons, ice axe
(including self-arrest); route-finding;
avalanche safety and basic rescue.

TINERARY
Days 1-3: Whitewater Rafting on the exciting Klamath River
(class III) at base of Marble Mountains in northern California. Fantastic wildlife and scenery.
Day 4: Wilderness Survival/Navigation held at Clear Creek, a spectacular streamside wilderness site,
for field course in wilderness survival and navigation.
Day 5: Whitewater Rafting on the breathtaking Salmon River (class IV).
Day 6: All-day Outdoor Workshop on practical wilderness medicine skills (including patient scenar-
ios) at Whitewater Ranch, an exclusive private wilderness camp on the Wild and Scenic Scott River.
Day 7: All-day Outdoor Workshop on basic mountaineering skills on Mt. Shasta.
Days 8-9 (optional): Guided ascent of Mt. Shasta (14, 161 ft.) or 2-day Flyfishing School
Course Cost: $1,395 (Includes all meals, accommodations (deluxe
outdoor camp), professionally outfitted whitewater raft trip by
Adventure Whitewater; professional mountaineering skills instruction
by Sierra Wilderness Seminars.) Guests $1,295 (over 12 years).
Additional CME Cost: $595 23 Hours Category I CME
