In Florida, a man was struck and killed by lightning as he took a letter to his mailbox.
In New Hampshire, twelve people were injured when lightning struck during a firework display.
In Montana, adults and children were rafting on the Missouri river when lightning struck them. Four
children suffered minor burns. One adult was struck directly by the lightning bolt and needed to be
resuscitated and suffered from serious bruising and trauma.
In Pennsylvania, six people were injured when lightning struck in an amusement park
In Wyoming, five people were injured and one was killed when lightning struck them when they
were hiking in the Grand Tetons.
In Colorado, two people were riding horses when a storm arrived. They sought shelter under a tree
which was struck by lightning. The horses were not under the tree did not get struck by lightning.
In Georgia, a teen was struck by lightning while outside his home. He died three days later of
cardiac failure.
In Florida, a woman was struck and killed by lightning while standing on a soccer field. About 20
other people were knocked to the ground by the strike. Four other people were transported to a
local hospital.
In Colorado, lightning struck a teenager while he was four-wheeling with friends. The teenage was
struck on the right side of the chest. He stopped breathing and was resuscitated by a friend.
In Massachusetts, two teenagers were injured while using a computer during a thunderstorm.
In Maine, lightning struck a hill injuring 4 teenagers who were sledding there. Three of the victims
were treated and released at the local hospital. One of the victims was injured critically and had to
be transported to a regional medical facility.
In South Dakota, two brothers, age 19 and 17, were struck by lightning while swimming. The 19
year old died later the same day, while the 17 year old survived his injuries.
In West Virginia, 8 middle school students were injured by flying glass when lightning entered their
school, causing windows to shatter. The electrical surge caused by the lightning destroyed 27
computer monitors, five television sets and two video recorders.
