An exciting 2-day
post-conference event will
be conducted on the
Matanuska Glacier, about
2 hours from Anchorage.
This made-to-order
workshop will cover the
essentials of glacier safety
and travel. Participants
will learn glaciology,
route selection, roped
team travel, rescue and
haul systems, and alpine
climbing techniques.
Lodging is located at the
foot of the glacier. All
gear, food, and lodging
are included in the cost of
the workshop.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference,
the participant will be better able to:
· Evaluate and manage medical problems due to cold, including
hypothermia, frostbite and non-freezing cold injuries.
· Evaluate and manage medical problems due to immersion or
near drowning in cold water.
· Evaluate and manage injuries and medical problems in a cold
environment.
· Recommend appropriate preventive measures to prevent
hypothermia and cold injuries during cold weather activities.
· Act as a mountain rescuer or advise mountain rescuers in
special situations, including avalanche rescue and high
altitude environments.
