Asbestos Grass
Land Manager Questionnaire
Asbestos grass (often locally referred to as Bastard Grass) has
been identified as a species that may degrade pastures in the Gulf
region. There is little documented information about the current
and potential impact on pastoral enterprises and natural
ecosystems. This survey is part of an investigation to summarise
the current knowledge on Asbestos grass. The results from the
investigation and survey will be made available to landholders and
provide direction for future research.
The study is being conducted by Vanessa Alsemgeest as a part of
her University of Queensland, Masters degree program. Bruce
Alchin from the School of Agriculture and Horticulture is
supervising the project. The Australian agricultural company,
Department of Primary Industries and Department of Natural
Resources and Mines are providing support for the project.
For university assessment purposes it would be appreciated if you
would complete the survey form and return it by fax or mail by
June 13, 2003. Survey forms received up to August 30 will be
accepted and processed.
