Graduates are eligible for corporate
membership of the Australian Institute of
Agricultural Science and Technology.
Study
requirement
To qualify for this degree students need to
complete 64 units of courses. Most subjects are
worth 2 units.
Honours
Graduates of four year degrees who achieve the
required grades are awarded honours as part of
their program. Masters and PhD studies can
then be undertaken, depending on the grade of
honours achieved.
Special program
features

The animal and plant and soil science
specialisations give students two years to
develop a broad knowledge of agricultural
science, and two years in which to specialise
in a wide range of areas.
q
The rural technology specialisation allows
students to experience a broad range of
agricultural activities before choosing an
area of specialised study in the later
semesters of the program.
q
The rural management specialisation meets
the demonstrated need within industry for
graduates with a sound knowledge of
applied aspects of animal and plant
production supported by strenghts in
marketing, economics, financial and people
management within a problem solving
framework.
q
Students are encouraged to become
environmentally aware and work towards
sustainable agriculture.
q
Vacation practical work, and a 20 weeks
industry placement for rural management
and rural technology students, provides
extensive practical experience.
q
Graduates enjoy a high level of employment.
q
Graduates can move easily into postgraduate
research programs.
Dual degrees
Students can broaden their career opportunities
by studying a dual degree in Bachelor of
Agricultural Science/Bachelor of Arts, or
Bachelor of Agricultural Science/Bachelor of
Education.
Integrated
industry study
(applies to rural technology specialisation only)
SEMESTER 5
The University organises for each student to
undertake 20 weeks of structured, program-
related experience in a work environment which
is suited to their future career aspirations. The
placement enables a student to apply basic
knowledge to working in that enterprise,
industry or government agency and to acquire
knowledge and skills to use in more specialised
studies later in the program.
During this semester, students submit a
number of reports relating to their placement
and undertake a course in the external mode.
Industrial
placement
(applies to rural management specialisation only)
SEMESTER 6
The University arranges for students to
undertake 16 weeks of structured, program-
related experience in a work situation which is
suited to their future career aspirations. The
program may involve placement on a farm, in
an agribusiness enterprise or with a government
agency. It can be undertaken in Australia or in
another country. This enables the student to
apply basic knowledge to that enterprise or
industry and to acquire knowledge and skills
which will be utilised in the more specialised
studies later in the program. During the period,
each student submits a number of reports
relating to the industry placement.
