FOOD SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY
The food and packaged meals we take off the supermarket shelves
are available because of food science. For example, soft drinks
and potato chips would not be there without advances in food
technology. It's hard to imagine life without easy-to-prepare
foods that can be cooked in an instant in the microwave. Studies
in food science and nutrition at the University of Queensland start
at the time the crops are picked and continue until they are on the
table ready for us to eat. Studies in this area are ideally suited to
those who have an interest in science and want to improve the
quality and choice of our foods.
