The Diploma of Applied Science (Agronomy) is designed to train graduates in
broad areas of agronomy so that they are able to contribute to efficient and
sustainable agricultural production in technical and managerial roles.
The Diploma of Applied Science (Horticulture) aims to produce technically
qualified and capable people essential to the management of amenity horticultural
operations, farms and other agribusiness enterprises. Graduates gain a practical
approach to sustainable long term production and landscape management.

Study
requirement
To qualify for the award of Diploma in Applied
Science (Horticulture) or (Agronomy), students
need to complete 32 units. Each course is worth
2 units.
AGRONOMY
CAREER OPTIONS
Although the business of agriculture is cyclical,
there are always good job prospects for well-
trained people and this demand can only expand
with an increasingly sophisticated production
environment.
Graduates find employment in:

agricultural production

agribusiness firms in positions involving
technical research, extension, sales and
management

government departments as technicians
With experience, graduates can expect to move
into supervisory or middle management
positions.
SPECIAL PROGRAM FEATURES

Students gain practical experience through
on-campus practical work and 40 days of
vacation practical work.

Each student obtains a Tractor Operator's
Certificate and a Senior First Aid Certifi-
cate.

Graduates of this program are eligible for
credit (minimum of 18 units) towards the
University's Bachelor of Applied Science
(Crops and Rangelands) degree.

Students from Agricultural Colleges are able
to articulate into the diploma program.
