IFAD is a major donor for agricultural
research and development, located in
Rome, Italy. IFAD has expressed inter-
est in supporting activities on neglected
crops, particularly as regards relevant
policies, and is in dialogue with potential
partners, e.g., IPGRI, FAO, IDRC, and
ICUC. Furthermore, IFAD hosts the
Secretariat of the Global Mechanism of
the Convention for the Control of Deser-
tification (CCD). It will be important to
keep in touch with IFAD regarding the
agency's future agenda in this area.

ICUC is a charity, founded in 1988,
and established at the University of
Southampton, UK. ICUC, through exter-
nal support, implements projects and is
connected to a variety of international
organizations. It is also a co-ordinating
centre for several regional networks.
These networks are being built into a
Global Network on Underutilized Spe-
cies, with support from the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO). The
Centre, inter alia, manages a database
on institutions, persons and pro-
grammes, and assists in project prepa-
ration and in acquisition of funds for
