Abstract
: The paper describes the industrial exploitation and application of supercritical CO
2
extraction seabuckthorn oil. Supercritical CO
2
extraction and separation technology is used in
extraction and refinement of seabuckthorn seeds and fruit oil, inactivation of enzyme and killing germs
in seabuckthorn fruit juice, defatting and dewaxing from the extractum of seabuckthorn flavone. The
project achieved great progress and provided theoretical foundation for the technique further used in
seabuckthorn products industrial exploitation.

Abstract
: Current methods for seabuckthorn oil extraction include (i) pressing, with low levels of
efficiency, (ii) supercritical CO
2
extraction, with less than 1 % of residual solvent but high investment
needs, and (iii) No. 6 solvent extraction method, wich destroys bioactive substances due to high
process temperatures. We have used ortho-butane and a series of purification and solvent separation
techniques to achieve extremely low solvent remnant levels in the final product. As the process
temperature is under 55
o
C, bioactive substances are protected. The technology yields about 60 kg of
oil for every ton of seabuckthorn seed. The solvent remnant was found to be 0.92
µ
g/ml or less than 1
ppm. This result compares favourably to the maximum level of residues allowed in edible oils, which is
50 mg/kg or 50 ppm. Furthermore, as a healthcare product, daily intake of seabuckthorn oil is lower
than that of edible oils and thus can be considered safe for consumption. The technology is
characterized by high extraction rates (98 %), low consumption and low cost. It can also be used for
oil extraction form seabuckthorn pulp or leaves and for other materials such as blackgrape seeds and
evening primrose.

Abstract
: The role of total flavonoids of Hippophae rhamnoides in improving myocyte contractile
functions in congestive heart failure was studied. The flavonoids were given to the congestive heart
failure myocytes produced by stretching the cultured monocytes, and then myocyte contractile
mechanics and calcium transmission were measured. The flavonoids increased myocyte
contractility, which was indicated by the myocyte shortening, velocity of shortening, peak +dL/dt and
