Skin Care Essentials
As a professional esthetician, you will recommend
the skin care treatments and products you will
use during the service, as well as the products
your clients will take with them for their home
SKIN CARE PRODUCTS
Product Function
Antiseptic
Assists in preventing the growth of bacteria on the skin
Cleansing crème
Removes impurities from the skin
Astringent
Assists in cleansing skin and returns oily skin to a normal pH
Toner
Assists in cleansing skin and returns normal to dry skin to a normal pH
Chemical exfoliant
Removes dead skin cells by using enzymes or alpha hydroxy acids
Manual exfoliant
A granular product that removes dead skin cells by manipulation on the
skin; also called facial scrub
Massage crème/oil
Reduces friction and provides "slip" to the skin during massage
Clay/mud Mask
Absorbs excess oil; tightens and refines pores; prevents clogging
Crème Mask
Hydrates and moisturizes
Gel Mask
Calms and soothes
Modeling Mask
Delivers beneficial ingredients
Paraffin Mask
Increases circulation; promotes product penetration
Moisturizer
Hydrates and protects the skin
Eye Product
Protects and treats delicate eye area

you will use during facial treatments. Material
Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all products used
in the skin care center or salon are required to be
available (See Chapter 4, Skin Care Center Ecology).
