Oxidative Color: Lighter Result Guidelines
·
Perform predisposition test 24-48 hours before service (be guided by manufacturer's
directions); if negative, proceed with hair color service.
·
Disinfect color service area; arrange implements and supplies, including color bowl and
brush, gloves, large-tooth comb, tail comb, sectioning clips, oxidative hair color(s),
developer and protective crème.
·
Wash and sanitize hands; drape the client for a chemical service; perform hair and scalp
analysis; wear protective gloves and color apron; perform preliminary strand test; review
previous client record card, if applicable.
·
Part the hair into four sections, apply protective creme around the hairline.
·
Measure and mix the formula.
·
Begin the application in the most resistant area. Use 1/4" (.75 cm) partings and apply the
color product 1/2" (1.25cm) away from the scalp on both sides of the strand, out to the
porous ends. If the ends are not porous, apply the color to the ends. Move to remaining
sections, working from the top of the section to the bottom.
·
Crosscheck to ensure even coverage and set the timer. Perform a strand test to determine
development.
·
Apply newly mixed color product to the base and ends when the hair has reached 50% of
the desired level. Use the same parting pattern.
·
Set the timer and perform a strand test to determine development.
·
Rinse the hair thoroughly when the hair has reached the desired level. Shampoo, condition
and finish the hair as desired.
·
Complete the client record card; offer your client a rebook visit; recommend retail products
that will enhance or maintain the color service; disinfect implements, discard non-reusable
supplies and clean your work area.
Oxidative Color: Lighter Result Retouch
Regrowth is more visible on lightened hair and generally requires more frequent retouches. Depend-
ing on the contrast between lightened and natural hair, some clients will need to schedule retouch-es
every 3-6 weeks. Color is
applied to the base area,
avoiding the previously col-
ored hair. If the remaining
hair has faded, apply an
oxidative product without
ammonia in a matching tone
to refresh the color. Retouch
lighter applications should not
exceed 10 minutes.
