Manicure
1.
Wash and sanitize your own and
your client's hands and nails and apply a
topical antiseptic. Perform visual exam-
ination of the hands and nails. Con-
tinue if there are no noticeable diseases or
disorders.

Remove polish from base to tip on the
nails of both hands to prepare for the exam-
ination. Use polish remover and cotton, and
wipe from the base of the nail to the tip to
avoid leaving polish residue on the skin.
3.
Analyze skin and nails thoroughly.
Consult with your client about shape
and length of nails desired.

4.
File and shape the nails with an
emery board.
a. Begin with the little finger on one
hand and shape from the outer edge
of the nail toward the center to
avoid splitting.
b. Use 2-3 short strokes on each side
of the nail and one longer stroke
per side to blend. Round the top of
the nail gently.
Cuticle Care
5.
Apply cuticle remover cream to one
hand.
6.
Place the hand in the finger bowl to
allow cuticles to soften. Repeat filing,
shaping and cuticle care on the oppo-
site hand.
7.
Pat the client's first hand dry with a
towel, and place the other hand in soaking
solution. Gently push back the cuticle
on each finger on the first hand with a
cotton-wrapped orangewood stick or cuticle
pusher.
