· Quark files are
imported into Adobe
InDesign and then
the brochure is
redesigned for
computer screen

PDF files that are
hard to read and
navigate, BC Pictures'
Bob Connolly recon-
figures the portrait
layout for landscape
display so that the PDF file will fill the
entire screen when launched · font
size is increased to make the electronic
version easy to read on a computer
monitor and any logos in vector format
are rendered into bitmaps to remove
jagged edges · for the embedded
media, a DVD was re-digitized, edited
and compressed into 62 separate video
clips that would accompany the still
pictures in the electronic brochure
· using Adobe InDesign, the individ-
ual videos were embedded into the
corresponding pages and buttons were
added to the pictures to allow for video
activation · the eBrochure was then
exported from InDesign as a highly
compressed PDF · to facilitate user
navigation around the Living Brochure,
Adobe JavaScript cascading menus
were incorporated into the electronic
documents using Adobe Acrobat

Volvo wanted a rich-media PDF with
embedded photographs and video that
could be downloaded from volvocana-
da.com · 62 QuickTime videos high-
light car accessories from the latest
navigation system to revolutionary
bike racks · each video averaged
one to two minutes in length · the
final document was exported in two
versions · a full version of the
ebrochure, 31 megabytes in size, con-
tained 62 QuickTime videos over 45
pages and required QuickTime 5 and
Adobe Reader 6 · a standard version,
3.2 megabytes in size, only required
Adobe Reader 4 · BrainTrain inc. has
registered the Living Brochure brand
as a Trade Name · since its launch
six months ago, the Living Brochure
has been produced for more than
15 clients from Benjamin Moore,
Network Associates to just about
every other car company
· BrainTrain inc.'s work is currently
split evenly between print and elec-
tronic media, but CSO Martin Jeffery
fully expects the electronic portion of
the business to experience stronger
growth · BrainTrain inc. partnered
with convergence specialists BC
