rules and regulations
Please review and follow all rules and regulations
to ensure your entry is complete.
01.
The competition is open to every bonafide, working
member of a Canadian professional beauty salon, including
freelancers to the industry and salon owners.
02.
Competitors may enter one or more of the 21
Contessa categories (22 including Community Service)
but each category may only be entered once annually.
03.
Each model may only appear once per category.
For example, if the category requires three slides, three
different models must be used.
04.
Creative work may not be entered twice in the same
category. Creative work may not be shared by entrants in any
category except for the following categories: Canadian Salon
Team, Makeover Colourist, Texture Hairstylist and Makeup
Artist. All participating stylists must credit their names and
function per entry accordingly (i.e. Hairstylist: John Doe; Colour
Technician: Mary Smith; Texture Technician: Paul Jones).
05.
To ensure fair competition, extreme digital manipulation
is discouraged and judging points will be deducted
accordingly, with the exception of the Avant Garde Hairstylist
of the Year category.
06.
After winning any category twice (with the exception
of Canadian Salon Team of the Year, Makeup Artist of the
Year, Nail Enhancement Artist of the Year or Nail Art
Technician of the Year), competitors are not eligible to enter
that category for three years. However, the competitor may
enter Elite Master Hairstylist of the Year (a category that is
also open to hairstylists having 15 years experience or more).
Once eligible, there is no limit to the amount of times you
may enter or win the Elite Master category.
07.
Photos must be 35 mm black & white or colour, non-
glass mounted slides. All images must be shot vertically (if
entering the category Salon Interior Design, horizontal slides
are permitted). Please package slides in standard plastic
protective sleeves. Elaborate packaging is discouraged and
is not scored. Slides will not be returned--please make and
keep your own duplicates before entering the competition.
Original slides of entry photos are encouraged.
08.
Contessa submissions may not be entered into any
similar, national, photography-based award event unless it
is held in conjunction with Salon Communications Inc., until
the results of The 16th Annual Canadian Hairstylist of the
Year Awards are announced at the gala awards ceremony.
This rule will be enforced, and awards will be revoked if
broken. For further information call: 416-869-3131.
09.
Contessa submissions may not be work
previously used or photographed for commercial purposes
(ie. advertising campaigns). For further information call:
416-869-3131.
10.
Entry to the competition deems entrants have read,
accepted and agreed to abide by the rules set forth herein.
11.
All entrants hereby grants The Canadian Hairstylist
of the Year Awards all respective rights, titles and interests
to the enclosed slide submission, including all applicable
copyrights. The entrant further grants Salon Magazine,
French and English editions, Elevate Magazine and
Beautynet, permission to reproduce any and/or all submitted
slides in any way they deem reasonable, provided such
use relates to this or any future Canadian Hairstylist of the
Year Award event and any advertising, promotion or publicity
associated herewith. By entering this competition, the
entrant waives the right to make any claims against the
judges of the competition, the sponsors, the organizers, or
any group which endorses the competition or assists in its
conduct. The entrant understands the decision of the judges
is final and that all slides become the property of Salon
Communications Inc. and The Canadian Hairstylist of the
Year Awards without payment of any compensation and
without restriction as to date, location or manner of use,
provided such relates to this event in any way.
12.
It is understood by entering this competition,
the entrant has secured and has proof of release forms
authorized by the photographer(s), makeup artist(s),
model(s) and other parties of interest involved in the
production of each submission. Please use the release
on the following page.
13.
Failure to comply with the Rules and Regulations
as set out will result in point deduction for each infraction
incurred and/or disqualification from the competition.
top 10 contessa entry tips:
DO
submit a complete entry package for each category.
This includes: an official entry form (with every line filled
out--legibly), the required photographs AND a slide
of yourself. Typed or attached word-processed documents
are highly encouraged.
DON'T
submit one form for multiple categories.
If you're entering more than one category, photocopy
the sheet, ask for extra forms or visit
www.beautynet.com/contessa.
DO
submit full credits, including your name, category
entered, photographer, makeup artist, etc. on a separate
sheet. Staple it to your entry form.
DON'T
attach sticky labels to the slides. Labels have
to be removed before slides are loaded into the projector
which means credits get lost. Legibly print your name and
category entered directly on slides.
DON'T
mount your slides in glass as they often shatter
en route. Use plastic slides please.
DO
submit slides in protective plastic sleeves to protect
slides from getting scratched or lost. Staple the plastic
sleeve to your entry form, being careful not to staple through
your slides. Please do not tape slides to your entry form!
DO
enclose your entry fee (payable by Visa, American
Express or cheque--cash only if submitting your entry in
person) in your package to ensure efficient processing of
your entry. Entries paid with NSF cheques or unauthorized
credit cards will be disqualified.
DO
make duplicate copies of your work prior to
submission. Once entered, original slides become Contessa
property. Salon Magazine English and French use them
all year long in the magazines.
DO
read the rules and regulations carefully and make
a checklist of what's required for each submission. This is
very important! If you have a question, call 416-869-3131.
DO
enter. If you don't enter, you can't win!
