ISES EXPANDS FACILITY CONDITION ANALYSIS
IN CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Educational techniques are
constantly being shaped by
technology. While educators once
used a chalkboard and a powerful
voice to get their point across, the
educational tools of today include
computer screen projectors, laser
pointers, and wireless
microphones. The introduction of
new technology has made teaching
easier and more effective.
Additionally, classroom layout can
also help bridge the gap between
professor and student. Simple
considerations like curved seating
rows, wide classrooms, and ample writing surfaces can make it easier for
educators and students to interact.
Attention to detail during the classroom design phase has become increasingly
important as educational tools have become more and more complex.
ISES Corporation has found many deficiencies during recent classroom
inspections. These deficiencies can contribute to conditions that are counter-
productive to both student and faculty. Many deficiencies found in classrooms
include, but are not limited to, the following:
·
Improper
lighting
·
Inadequate
acoustics
·
Improper classroom floor layout design
·
Inadequate interior finishes
·
Inadequate student workspace
·
Improper sizes and locations of chalkboards or white boards
·
Non-conformance to the current ADA legislation
·
Inability for proper interaction between students and instructor
·
Improper locations for controls of lights and new equipment
·
Violations of Fire / Life Safety issues
·
Poor furniture selection
·
