UTREACH TO THE

OMMUNITY
Outreach initiatives are coordinated through many
hospital departments. Most programs are offered free of
charge. The following is a sampling of 2003 efforts:
Lectures
- Appropriate Use of Medicine
- Coping at Home with Alzheimer's Disease
- Physical Therapy for MS Patients
- Stretch Yourself Back to Health
- Osteoporosis Awareness
Outreach
- Ambulation equipment (canes, walkers, crutches, etc.)
are collected and given to patients who cannot afford
to purchase them.
- Cell phone collection drive for women in the "Speak -
- Out Against Violence" program
- Children's books were collected and donated to the
residents of West Hab (low income housing)
- Creative writing course, held twice a year for patients
and the community, drew 236 people.

- Annual Wheelchair Games
- First Swing Golf Clinic for physically disabled and
golf professionals
- Wheelchair Table Tennis Program

The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital's net operating
revenue in 2003 was $56 million; net operating
expenses were $57 million. Charity care totaled
$1 million.

The Winifred Masterson Burke Rehabilitation Hospital
is a 501 © (3) not-for-profit corporation, located at 785
Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, N.Y., in the county
of Westchester. The hospital operates satellite
rehabilitation and sports medicine centers clinics in the
town of Purchase, the city of White Plains and in the
New York City borough of the Bronx. Related 501 © (3)
corporations include the Winifred Masterson Burke
