E N T E R O N L I N E :
The Festival
October 7-14, 2004
Over the past decade, NOFF has grown into a prominent vehicle for exhibitions and premieres of local, regional, national and international inde-
pendent film. Each year NOFF showcases the best new American and foreign films including premieres of major feature films and shor t works
all with directors, actors, screenwriters, cinematographers, film critics, and fans in attendance.
Now in our 16th year, NOFF is a whirlwind of activity over 7 days at venues such as Landmark Theatres at Canal Place, Contemporar y Ar ts Center,
Pr ytania Theatre, Entergy IMAX Theatre, and other sites citywide. Over 9,500 festivalgoers attend currated films and juried selections at various venues.
We kick off our weeklong, citywide festival with an annual GALA rivaling anything Hollywood can dish out.
Film Congress
October 9 & 10, 2004
Free and open to the public, the Film Congress includes panels and Mentor Sessions with industr y professionals discussing the state of the industr y.
Recent speakers include Godfrey Reggio (Naqoyqatsi), Peter Fonda (Easy Rider) and Mark Childress (Crazy in Alabama).
Industry After Hours
October 8 - 14, 2004
Many of NOFF attendees are up-and-coming independent filmmakers, and many are Film Industr y execs scouting for new talent. They sit in movies all
day and night, leaving little oppor tunity for networking and socializing. We've decided to play social director by choosing some of New Orleans top
nightspots for after-hours gatherings.
In Competition: Awards
IN COMPETITION is the competitive arena of the New Orleans Film Festival. Each year, IN COMPETITION'S program features the top-rated films in five categories:
narrative shor t, narrative feature, documentar y, experimental work, and animation. The majority of IN COMPETITION films do not have distribution deals,
and the New Orleans Film Festival is the only oppor tunity for locals to see these original works. Several IN COMPETITION selections have gone on to win
Academy Awards! All entries submitted to IN COMPETITION go through a 4-month jur y process. IN COMPETITION screenings run over 7 days, with an
awards night closing out our big opening weekend. IN COMPETITION offers the top-scoring film in each categor y a cash prize.
